The Mandatory Core: Service as Action Requirements
Beyond subject coursework and the Personal Project, every student must fulfill the school’s Service as Action (SaA) requirements to complete the programme. SaA mandates that students apply classroom learning to real-world community needs across all five years of the MYP. Rather than tracking a strict number of volunteer hours, the IB evaluates SaA through specific learning outcomes. Students must demonstrate awareness of community needs, take self-directed initiative, collaborate with others, and document reflections in their learning logs. Standard Completion vs the IB MYP Certificate
There are effectively two levels of MYP completion:
Standard MYP completion

IB MYP Certificate

Subject Flexibility in MYP Year 5 (Grade 10)
While students must study all eight subject groups during Years 1 through 3, IB regulations permit limited subject flexibility in Years 4 and 5 (Grades 9 and 10). To maintain a balanced curriculum, schools may allow students to reduce their course load to six or seven subject groups, provided the following conditions are met:
